Sunday Smackdown

This week in honor of tomorrow being Halloween it's for a battle of horror Icons. Two three monster teams locked in a battle to the finish. All six combatants are all legends in their own right.

Team one consists of three Legends. Dracula (Bela Lugosi), The Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.) and The Monster (Boris Karloff)

Facing off against them is a team who dominated the '80's and changed horror.  Freddy Krueger ( Robert Englund), Jason Voorhees (C.J. Graham) and Michael Myers ( Dick Warlock).

It's a All Hollow's Eve battle of monster Icons!

 Vs.

Last week's winner was Cropsy with five votes to Madman Marz's three votes.

  1. This seems like a tricky match-up maybe at first glance, but after a quick few logical moments of thought, I realized it's not even really a question of brute force, on the purely physical side of things. I gotta go with the classics all the way, here. The Frankenstein monster is basically indestructible (far moreso than Jason or Michael), because it was never really "human" to begin with... as we learn in the later sequels, the monster is a force of nature itself, thanks to the special circumstances and lightning which lent to its creation... add a nearly as resilient Wolfman into the mix and you've got supernatural devastation that simply cannot be topped by two guys who, whatever status they have now, used to just be crazy dudes in masks. I know after FRIDAY THE 13TH Part VI Jason himself was almost Frankensteinian, but "almost" doesn't cut it here, and there's worlds of difference between the rotting corpse of Voorhees walking about killing teen campers, and the ironclad Frankenstein creature, which can overturn horse carts and stare down whole mobs of pitchfork wielding villagers. And Myers, for all his toughness and seeming longevity, has never been established to have anything supernatural about him. Uncanny, maybe, but not supernatural. So Wolfie should dispatch him quite handily... and would undoubtedly heal fairly quickly from any knife strokes that Myers sneaks in during the fight.

And then I broke the other part of the fight down between Freddy and Dracula, obviously the smartest on each side and the ones possessing strengths beyond just the physical. Dracula has fantastical mental powers (hypnotism, etc.) ALL THE TIME, he doesn't need to wait for anyone to fall asleep... and if it came down to it, he's plenty strong on his own, so he could no doubt contend with Freddy's claws. And even if Krueger does get some serious swipes in there, what's Drac gonna do? Bleed to death? Hardly. Even if the whole thing takes place in "dream world", Dracula is no mere mortal presence, and is doubtless perfectly comfortable in such an ethereal dimension. And Freddy doesn't like crosses or holy water or religious shit any more than Dracula, so he can't even bend that to his use. Again, advantage: CLASSICS.

  2. All I have to say is WOW! Just wow! A fantastic write up. Not only did you perfectly sum up the combatants strengths and weakness, but you helped me decided on who would win. i was undecided on the strengths of the classics up against the viciousness of the '80's icons. But really, after what you said about Drac, I realized he could probably take all three himself.
