Sunday Smackdown

Celebrating the best in ass kickery.

The first one by way of Jackie Chan in City Hunter.

Review: Bloodlust! (1961)

Bloodlust! (1961)

Basically The Most Dangerous Game with 50's hipsters. One of which is played by the dad from the Brady Bunch. While on a boating trip Two couples decide to take a trip to a ominous island, much to the chagrin of the ships captain who I call Captain Mcdrunkey or as the movie calls him Tony . On the Island they meet Dr. Albert Balleau who wears a mean smoking jacket and surprise, like to hunt people.

There is a surprising amount of gore for a film made in 1959. The acting is good but the cave set is the worst I've seen this side of Dr. Who. The scene to look for is when one of the women gets attacked by one of the henchmen and judo tosses him into a well placed vat of acid. For some reason she turns into Ric Flair. Wooo.

Not great by any stretch not even good, it's a typical drive-in movie. In other words it's fun if your in the right mood or drunk.

Guilty pleasure films: Girls Nite Out (1984)

Girls Nite Out (1984)

Directed by Robert Deubel
Julia Montgomery
James Carroll
Hal Holbrook

The day after the big basketball game at an Ohio collage the annual scavenger hunt is held. But this year a killer in a bear suit is stalking the party crazy collage kids. Can security guard Hal Holbrook save the day? And not look like he wants to be somewhere else? And how many fart jokes will this film inflict on the viewer.

Ah Girls Nite Out, why oh why do I love you so? Is it your thirty something aged collage students or is it 80's sex comedy shenanigans? Or your killer dressed in a bear costume?
I'd have to say I love all of it. It mixes together into a nice cheesy stew of slasher goodness.

There's no real final girl in the film and Hal Holbrook's Mac the security guard isn't in it enough to be a main character. But hell when you have a killer in a bear costume with knives for claws who hisses out "Slut! Bitch! Whore!" every time he kills, you really don't need any of that.

On another note the ending is rather abrupt but has a rather creepy charm. As long as you don't expect Halloween or Friday the 13th you won't be disappointed.
